ASIAIR PRO is a smart WiFi device that allows you to control all ASI USB 3.0 cameras, ASI Mini series cameras, DSLR cameras and an equatorial mount to do plate solving and imaging with your phone or tablet/iPad when connected to ASIAIR PRO via WiFi.

Dual bandwidth WiFi Control: 5G & 2.4G supported. you can switch between 5G & 2.4G depends on your environment. 5G is faster for downloading and not so crowded as 2.4G but works best over shorter distances without many obstructions such as walls.

Independent Guiding & Imaging: Standalone guiding & Imaging without the need of PC. Everything is under control with your phone!

Preview in real time: Preview: with the help of WiFi network, ASIAIR PRO can preview images in nearly real-time. Auto & manually histogram stretching is always useful for dark deep sky imaging.

Plate Solving: Offline plate solving can be done in a few seconds.

SkySafari Bridge: The user can use the SkySafari app to control the mount through ASIAIR PRO, choose the target and go.

Supported cameras: ASI USB3.0 camera, ASI cooled camera, ASI mini cameras, DSLR cameras (It can not support ASI120MM/MC camera)

USB Hub: ASIAIR comes with 4 USB ports, you can connect up to 4 USB devices and don’t need USB Hub.

Power Supply and Power Hub: ASIAIR PRO needs 12V DC input. It also serves as power hub for up to four other devices - thanks to four 12V DC outputs!

WiFi issues

As previous review, I 100 percent agree that it is extremely versatile and well sdesigned device, but compared to the first version with the plastic box, the wifi range is totally unacceptable, this due to the alu box. A solution should be to have an sma connector on the box with small coax cable connecting to the wifi antenna connection point on the PI4 pcb and have a small 2.4 / 5 GHz antenna conneted to the sma connector. if WiFi range could be improved, it is a must have!

Great, but wifi issues

I've been able to use the Asiair pro now for a few imaging sessions.
No more messing around with a laptop, cables, 3-4 different programs, etc. It's all integrated into one little box and it works very well. All the equipement connects to it, reducing cable clutter for sure.

The setup is easy, the polar alignment tool is also very easy to use as the mount does the plate solving all on its own, followed by instructions for the manual adjustment.

The app also gives helpful hints when setting up the imaging of darks, flats and bias and you're able to automate a lot of the imaging sessions. Also the addition of the live stacking gives an interesting visual on what is going on with your imaging (But I still prefer to process the images manually after) and autorun takes care of most of the things on its own.

One thing that is (I believe?) missing, is multiple targets. you can't tell the Asiair to image one target for xx hours, then move to the next target to image that one. But that is a software thing, which might improve in the future.

it does lose a point due to a very annoying feature/failure. the wifi range. it is horrible.
On 2.4ghz I can barely get about 4 meters way before it loses connection or loses significant upload/download speed. (This is without any obstructions in the way, no walls, windows, or anything. this is with direct line of sight) And don't even try 5ghz, the range is even lower.

Several forum posts can be found about this subject. One involving tests comparing it with the previous asiair, and comparing it by adding a TP link router. And it would appear that the metal housing of the asiair has made the wifi range almost useless if you're not standing next to the telescope.
This is improved a lot by adding a small router to the setup, (I've attached a TP-Link travel to my setup) but, that shouldn't really be the point of this product and it should be doing this on its own.

It's not the worst problem, as the autorun will continue to operate the imaging process without having a phone or tablet connected to it. But it is annoying that you can't check up on your imaging while not being near your telescope.
